A snapshot of the report shows that MLSD received a “B” for the number of indicators met and three (3) “A’s” in overall value added, value added for our gifted population, and value added for our lowest 20% of achieving students. This means that all three subgroups of students made substantially more progress than the state’s growth standard – up to two years more growth in one years time.
MLSD received a “C” in Performance Index. This “C” reflects an “average” score for our students on one test on one testing day. The Performance Index for the 2015 report card is unique in that it shows student performance during the first year of higher learning standards and more rigorous tests statewide.
Finally, MLSD received a “D” in the K-3 Literacy category. Although there is obvious room for improvement on this indicator, it is important to note that this measure relates directly to Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee. The Third Grade Reading Guarantee aims to make sure that all students are reading at grade level by the end of third grade. MLSD has a 100% passage rate for our students on the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
Overall, in light of the numerous changes to the academic standards and testing, we are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of our Madison students and staff. We will continue to strive for excellence in all areas of assessment, one student at a time.
