New Start/End Times and Smart Start Days for 2014-2015 School Year

2014-2015 Start and Dismissal Times

With all of the current changes in education at the State Level, the District feels we need to provide our teachers with more collaboration time for professional development and curriculum planning. In order to accomplish this with minimal disruption to the community, we are altering our start time and end times for the 2014-2015 school year.

Madison Elementary School
Start Time - 8:40am
End Time - 3:20pm

Madison Jr/Sr High School
Start Time - 7:42am
End Time - 2:35pm

These changes will of course impact transportation times by approximately 20 minutes. The transportation department will put together bus pick up and drop times as soon as possible and we hope to have them posted to this website as well as Madison's social media outlets in late July, early August.

Smart Start Days for Madison Elementary School (PK-6)

We are very excited about  the changes we have in place for the fall and how those changes will positively impact our student instruction.  Currently our District calendar has August 13th as the first day of school for students.  The Junior/Senior High School (Grades 7-12) will begin on this date.  However, the MES will be using August 13-15 for Smart Start Days.

Teachers will be using these days to assess your student’s strengths and areas for growth in reading and math.  Teachers will listen to your child read and determine the appropriate level to begin reading instruction.  Also during this scheduled time, your child will take the math MAP assessment. This student performance data will guide teachers in planning instruction and making the most of classroom time allowing them to “hit the ground running.”

You will receive a scheduled day (August 13, 14, or 15) and time, much like a parent/teacher conference to meet with your child’s teacher for the 2014-15 school year to share information you feel is important for him/her to know prior to the start of school.  We will have all “back-to-school” forms ready for you to complete on this day during your child’s assessment time.

To better accommodate our parent community, we will offer evening hours.   Students will be scheduled either on August 13th  or 14th from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., or on August 15th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please look for a letter coming home that will provide you with your child’s scheduled time.

The first day of school for all students Pre-K to 6th  will be on Monday, August 18, 2014.
