The Superintendent's responsibilities are as varied as the district. These responsibilities can be classified into two general categories: management and leadership. Management is the function concerned with buildings and grounds, financial responsibility, policy processes, calendars, timelines, contracts, and contacts. Leadership is the function that provides responsibilities in personnel, communications, planning, vision, curriculum, and instruction. These two major functions merge daily with the movement of 1700 people on the 32 acres of our school district.

There are many levels of pressures being exerted on our school district. Federal and state mandates, such as the federal No Child Left Behind law and the state Jarod's Law, as well as local desires all have to be taken into consideration. Federal law, Ohio Revised Code law, and local Board of Education policy all make up the "rules" we must follow as we seek to educate the students of Madison.

Having only been here for two years, I am still learning about the district and the community. But, those two years have been quite eventful, filled with necessary change.
